Standard cataract eye surgery costs

  • Directly billed provided you have adequate cover with your health fund.
  • This excludes any hospital excess, the anaesthetist and post operative medication fees.
  • This includes follow-up for 90 days.

Lifestyle cataract surgery pricing

  • $500 gap payment per eye provided you have adequate cover with your health fund.
  • This excludes any hospital excess, the anaesthetist and post operative medication fees.
  • This includes follow-up for 90 days.

Laser cataract surgery pricing

  • $2500 per eye
  • This excludes any hospital excess, the anaesthetist and post operative medication fees.
  • This includes follow-up for 90 days.

Keratoconus treatment pricing

  • Cost starts from $2000 per eye
  • This includes follow-up for 4 weeks

Notes: Medicare rebate is $1136 per eye.

Age-related macular degeneration treatment pricing

  • Cost starts from $50 (for the pre-injection scan).
  • Pending your health fund cover, you may be able to have your injections in theatre with the fees directly billed to your health fund (Please note, AHSA funds no longer cover theatre injections).
  • This includes follow-up for 5 days.

Eye surgery costs if you don’t have health insurance

Standard cataract surgery costs

  • $3400 – $3900 per eye (pension)
  • $4100 – $4600 per eye (private)
  • This is inclusive of the doctor’s fee, the anaesthetist, the day surgery fees and the post operative medication
  • This includes follow up for 90 days.

Lifestyle cataract surgery costs

  • $4400 – $4900 per eye (pension)
  • $5000 – $5500 per eye (private)
  • This is inclusive of the doctor’s fee, the anaesthetist, the day surgery fees and the post operative medication.
  • This includes follow up for 90 days.

Laser cataract surgery costs

  • $6610 per eye (pension + private)
  • This is inclusive of the doctor’s fee, the anaesthetist, the day surgery fees and the post operative medication
  • This includes follow up for 90 days.

Notes: Please note this does not include the anaesthetist’s fee.

In-room glaucoma treatments pricing

  • Cost ranges from $650 – $800 for all in-room Glaucoma treatment
  • Follow-up appointments are charged
  • Treatment plans are individualised to meet patients’ needs
  • Private health insurance does not contribute to in-room treatments

Keratoconus treatment pricing

  • Cost starts from $2000
  • This includes follow-up for 4 weeks

Notes: Medicare rebate is $1136 per eye.

Useful information about financing

If you have registered your details with Medicare, we will submit your claim, and you will usually receive your rebate within one to two working days.

  • You will need to have hospital cover to claim for your surgery. Please note your surgery or treatment is not covered by extra cover.
  • For cataract surgery, you will generally require a “Gold” level of hospital cover. 
  • For all other eye surgery, “Bronze” cover or higher will mean you are covered for your treatment.
