Dr Delia Wang is an ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in oculoplastics, medical retina and ophthalmic cataract microsurgery. Dr Wang is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese and is committed to providing accessible healthcare for all patients.
A rewarding career
Dr Wang hails from New Zealand and completed her medical degree at the University of Otago, gaining experience in both city and rural hospitals.
During her time as a medical student, Dr Wang visited the ophthalmology clinic and became fascinated by the intricate internal structures of the eye. Then she saw the profound impact that cataract surgery and restored vision had on patients’ lives.
Ophthalmology seemed like a meaningful career that offered a scientific challenge and the chance to make a difference.
“Ophthalmology offered a unique blend of surgical precision, diagnostic challenges, and the opportunity to improve patients’ well-being…Whether it’s reconstructing an eyelid after skin cancer excision or managing orbital tumours, the intricacies of this field captivate me. Additionally, helping patients regain visual function and improve their quality of life is incredibly rewarding.”

Having completed her general ophthalmology training, Dr Wang undertook three further years of subspecialty training, including a:
- 1 year Fellowship in oculoplastics, paediatric ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology
- 1 year Fellowship in oculoplastics and medical retina
- 1 year Fellowship in oculoplastics, lacrimal and orbital diseases
After practicing as an oculoplastic and general ophthalmology consultant in New Zealand, Dr Wang was awarded the prestigious RANZCO travelling scholarship, which brought her to Brisbane.
Having arrived in sunny Queensland, Dr Wang undertook a further year of subspecialty fellowship in oculoplastics, lacrimal and orbital diseases with Professor Timothy Sullivan in Brisbane. This world-renowned fellowship included clinical positions at the Royal Brisbane and Woman’s Hospital and the Queensland Children’s Hospital, and involved management of complex adult and paediatric oculoplastic conditions.
“The most rewarding aspect of my job is witnessing the transformation that occurs when we restore or enhance someone’s vision. Whether it’s removing a cataract, treating retinal conditions, or addressing eyelid malposition, the joy in a patient’s eyes when they regain clarity or comfort is truly fulfilling.”
