Costs vary by surgery type and insurance status. For insured patients, Standard cataract surgery is $71.60 out-of-pocket per eye (specialist fee billed to health fund). Lifestyle cataract surgery is $571.60 per eye ($500 GAP + $71.60 drops). Refractive cataract surgery is $3,071.60 per eye ($3,000 GAP + $71.60 drops). For uninsured patients, Standard is $1,671.60, Lifestyle is $2,071.60, and Refractive is $3,071.60 per eye. All prices exclude Theatre Fee and Anaesthetist Fee.

What level of private health insurance do I need for cataract surgery?

For cataract surgery you generally require a Gold level of hospital cover. For all other eye surgery, Bronze cover or higher will usually cover your treatment. Note that surgery is not covered by extras cover.

How does Medicare work for cataract surgery at OKKO?

If you have registered your details with Medicare, OKKO will submit your claim on your behalf. You will usually receive your Medicare rebate within one to two working days.

Are post-operative follow-up appointments included in the fee?

Yes. There is no charge for post-operative follow-up appointments for 90 days after surgery for all surgery types. The fees listed cover your specialist's fee and post-operative eye drops only.
