What is laser cataract surgery?

An Asian woman, wearing glasses, sits on a sofa looking at her phone.

In this post, Dr Russell from OKKO Eye Specialist Centre illustrates the two forms in which laser cataract surgery is performed.

Laser cataract surgery is an advanced type of cataract surgery. It uses femtosecond laser technology to enhance accuracy when correcting astigmatism, short or long-sightedness after cataract removal.

The first method is called lifestyle cataract surgery. Here we use laser eye surgery enhancement to correct any remaining astigmatism or short or long-sightedness after we’ve removed the cataract.

The second method is called laser cataract surgery. Here we use a laser to make the incision to remove the cataract, rather than a blade. This service is available in Brisbane in association with our sister clinic, VSON.
