What is the road to recovery after a pterygium diagnosis?

In this post, Dr. Judy Ku discusses your recovery following treatment, when you can expect to return to work and how the healing process differs after pterygium surgery

If you’re wondering, how long does it take to recover from pterygium surgery?, we can answer that for you now.

If you work outdoors, it’s important to take the least two weeks off work because of the risk of further irritation or infection. If you work indoors, or mostly in the office, it’s okay to return to work after about seven to ten days, as long as you’re able to continue to take your eye drops and maintain good hand hygiene.

In terms of preventing recurrences, it’s important to maintain good sun protection, such as sunglasses and sun hats, especially when you are outdoors or driving.

For some patients, their vision and refraction may change after surgery, hopefully, improving the level of astigmatism. It’s important that you see an optometrist to update your glasses.

If your pathology shows some pre-cancerous or cancerous cells then you may require other treatment and you need to speak to your specialist about it.
